The Museum of Broken Relationships grew from a travelling exhibition revolving around the concept of failed relationships and their ruins. The touring Museum, which originated in Zagreb, Croatia, arrived in London last month and offers anyone a chance to overcome an emotional collapse by contributing to the collection.
The idea was conceived six years ago by a couple that had just split up and couldn’t decide how to divide their shared possessions. Since then, the exhibition has invited people from the countries it has visited to submit objects to lament their ended relationships. Random items like garden gnomes and axes are on display, alongside text that explains the story behind each object.
It’s an interesting twist on the traditional format of museum displays, as the public curates the show by donating personal items to be exhibited.
