Imagine you’re one of the world’s poorest people, living in rural Africa. How do you get to your job – much less find one? How do you send your children to school, find clean water or get to a medical clinic? Joel Jackson, founder of Mobius Motors, might have the answer (cheers, Alex in London).
By keeping production costs low, Mobius plans to build competitively priced vehicles to negotiate Kenya’s bumpy dirt roads and cover long distances. The vehicles won’t be sold directly to the extreme poor, but instead to entrepreneurs across Africa – so they can provide essential services including mobile medical care, school buses and mail delivery, in exchange for financing and business advice. Sustainable, and beneficial for everyone involved.
